Welcome to the third FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship, with Slovenia ready to host what is quickly becoming a highlight of the volleyball calendar.
After Mexico’s helped launch the event in 2013 and Turkey followed up with a sensational second edition in 2015 I have no doubt that the 2017 competition will continue to raise the bar.
Once again fans will be privileged to see some of the world’s brightest young stars from around the world compete for the title. It is yet another occasion which underlines volleyball’s increasing reach around the world, with each continent represented by two teams.
Slovenia is a country where volleyball is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports, with their silver medal success at the 2015 Men’s European Championship helping drive further development.
This week local supporters will further experience the excitement of live volleyball, with the added bonus of catching a glimpse of some potential future Olympic Games or FIVB World Championship stars.
Fans will no doubt provide a unique atmosphere for the athletes to enjoy. I wish everyone, both on the court and off it, a wonderful tournament.
