China defeat Thailand in show of power at U23 Worlds

China's Song Meili sends the ball past the Thai block of Sooksod Thanacha and Nuanjam Watchereeya Sunday in Ljubljana at the 2017 FIVB Women's U23 World Championship.

Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 10, 2017 - China dispatched Thailand 4-0 (15-11, 15-6, 15-11, 15-12) in the Asian derby of the 2017 FIVB Women's U23 World Championship here on Sunday at Arena Stozice to join hosts Slovenia at the top of Pool A standings after the first day of competition.

Led by outside hitter Wang Yunlu who scored 15 points and Yan Kailu who added another 10, China dominated play from the very beginning of the game and left absolutely no doubt who was the boss, outplaying Thailand in all scoring skills.

All matches in Ljubljana are played under a new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.
