Dream opening for Slovenia in 4-0 sweep of Argentina

 

Slovenia's Iza Mlakar attacks over the block of Argentina's Mariana Moriondo and Antonela Fortuna at Arena Stozice in Ljubljana on the opening day of the 2017 FIVB Women's U23 World Championship.

Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 10, 2017 - Hosts Slovenia produced a solid performance for an ideal opening at the 2017 FIVB Women's U23 World Championship here on Sunday as they shut out Argentina 4-0 (15-11, 15-10, 15-10, 15-8) in 56 minutes before an enthusiastic, 1,500-strong home crowd at Arena Stozice.

All matches in Ljubljana are played under a new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.

Opposite Iza Miklar led Slovenia's onlslaught with 14 points as the home team outblocked (9 stuffs to 2) and outserved (10 aces to 4) Argentina, in addition to a 48% attacking efficiency (28/58).

Slovenia's Italian coach Alessandro Chiappini stuck with his starting lineup throughout the game and made a single substitution in each set.
