Team profile

Japan

The Japanese team consists of members selected from various university teams and some of the Japan’s top club teams of V. league - Japan’s premier league. Using typical characteristics of the Japanese - dexterity, hard work, discipline, and an endeavor to bring out players’ individual personalities - we will fight fiercely point to point, match to match at this tournament. There is no doubt that each player has tremendous capability of volleyball talent.
Furthermore, adding the esprit de corps of the team to the resolute and speedy combination volleyball, which is regarded as a tradition of Japanese volleyball, we will play dynamic and constant volleyball.
It has not been long since our team was brought together; however, making the most of team spirit and thanking the organizers and those who are involved in the competitions for their efforts and hospitality, we will do our very best. We would like to ask you to cheer for us. Leading by the head coach, Kiyoshi Abo, whose coaching methods have a good reputation and powerful blocking and his coaching policy is not to stereotype his players, but to develop their potential to the fullest. The motto of Abo’s squad is making a performance tenaciously as it seems to be Japan!
Our team is hoping to compete with dazzling performances which will catch the eyes of audience. Thank you very much.

Abo, Kiyoshi

Kiyoshi Abo, 47, is the specialist in defense. He was graduated from Meiji University and further more University of Tsukuba - Graduate Schools and Programs, and then has coached during from 2000 to 2009 season for Ito Yokado Prior ~Takefuji Bamboo Women’s Club Team. Continuously, from 2009~2013 season, he has been acted as one of the Assistant coaches of the Japanese Senior Women’s Volleyball Team. He had contributed for Senior Women’s National Team to win the Bronze Medal at World Championship in 2010 and London Olympic Games in 2012.
From 2013-2014, he had been assisted Coach for women’s First-Division National League team Hisamitsu Springs and from 2014 until now, he has been assisted Head Coach of Japanese U23/U20 Women’s National Teams.
Six years has passed since the March 11 disasters and in order to encourage Japanese people to overcome the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami disaster, Abo and his squid will go for great progress and achievements on the upcoming international/world stage in 2017.
